Aaron Died

When a faithful man of God dies, he leaves behind a ministry that has changed souls and transferred the faith to generations to come. His reward awaits him in Heaven and his ministry goes on and on. It reminds me of the effect Abner’s death had on King David. Abner had been captain over David in Saul’s army and along with Jonathan, Abner had trained David to be a great warrior and honed his skills to lead God’s people. David mourned Abner’s death but he transferred the life of the dead to the next generations. “And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?” (2 Samuel 3:38).

Every pastor that has been a part of our lives has welded part of God’s character into our lives, men like J.D. Polk in Hawaii; Kenneth Griffith in Huntsville, Texas; Paul Patterson in Henderson, Texas; Ray O. Brooks and Roy Culley at Texas Baptist Institute. Like Alfred Lord Tennyson’s character in “Ulysses” said, “I am a part of all that I have met.” Every part of our lives that a beloved pastor touches with God’s Word changes us little by little to be more like Jesus. God has forever touched us through His men.

Because of Moses’ lack of faith at the waters of Meribah, Aaron was not allowed the privilege of entering the Promised Land. When a preacher of God fails, the collateral damage is great. However, God’s Word never fails. We must always remember to pray for our pastor and his family.

Thought: “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15).
