Kings and Priests

Jesus told His apostles that in the kingdom they would be princes ruling the twelve tribes of Israel (Matthew 19:28). However in Heaven, they gladly cast their crowns before Jesus’ feet in worship; all the glory belongs to Him. “The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:10, 11). “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne” (Revelation 3:21). Believers will serve Jesus forever. No one will want to assume power that he does not deserve. Everyone will be thankful for the rewards Jesus gives and will have no sin nature and humbly and gladly surrender in service.

In the New Testament, the word slave, doulos, was an individual who had sold out to his master. Paul called himself Jesus’ doulos. He had suffered the loss of all things that he might win Jesus. Peter speaks of our present service in the Lord’s churches as a priesthood (1 Peter 2:5).

Thought: A doulos servant owns nothing, not his family, clothes, home or food. He belongs to his master. His main objective in life is to make his master happy. When his master is pleased, his joy is fulfilled.
