Return to Sinai

The saddest person on the planet is the child of God who does not have a strong fellowship with his Heavenly Father. Here, you see a sad person. You can see that God delivered both good news and sad news in the devotional passage for today. God told them that He would still bring them to, and give them, the Promised Land. That was a one-way covenant God had made, and it would not be broken. The bad news is that God would not be with them in the same way that He had in the past.

When God makes a promise to you with no conditions attached, He will always deliver on that promise. You see this here; despite the behavior of the people, He would deliver them to the Promised Land just as He said He would. You have an unconditional promise today as well. The promise of salvation through Jesus Christ is not based on your performance; the only requisites to it are repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You can do nothing to earn it, and you can do nothing that will undo it once it is yours. Praise God!

On the other hand, despite God’s glorious promise, many of His children are sad and distant from their Heavenly Father. The reason for this is important. You are distant not because God wandered off, but because you either have not sought Him, or because of your sin. Sin can steal the joy of your salvation, while leaving your salvation intact.

JUST A THOUGHT: Since God is everywhere, He is always close to you and waiting for you. Where are you?
