God’s Strength
“God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect,” 2 Samuel 22:33.
There is a scene in The Lion King when young Simba, a lion cub, was being chased by hyenas. When he was backed into a corner, he faced them and gave a tiny, unimpressive roar which made the hyenas chuckle as they continued to advance. Simba gave out another roar, but this time, the sound echoed through the cave and stopped the hyenas in their tracks. It was the roar of his father, Mufasa, a full-grown king of the jungle, reverberating off the walls and evoking fear in the enemy.
The picture David was painting here was that of war. Notice the language he used: “feet like hinds’ [deer] feet,” “high places,” “bow of steel” and “shield of salvation.” The imagery here tells us that God was strengthening David to fight the enemy. David gave credit to God as the One providing this strength. We, too, must be prepared for battle. In Ephesians 6, Paul wrote these words to the believers in Ephesus, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (verse 10). He then described the armor we need to stand against the enemy: belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit (Word of God). The Lord provides everything we need to defeat principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness. Our own roars may be puny and ineffectual, but we have the Almighty Lion of Judah behind us ready to stop the enemy in their tracks.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
As the enemy advances on every side, rest in knowing that God’s strength is more than enough to provide victory. Prepare yourself with the armor of God and rely on Him to fight your battles.
