Aim at God's Glory

"That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord;' 1 Corinthians 1:31.

I am so proud of my children. My oldest son is a restaurant manager. My daughter is a gifted artist. My youngest son is at that age where everything he accomplishes excites us. He is identifying letters and numbers. He is speaking more clearly. He can navigate my wife's smartphone better than I can. But there is an interesting consideration when it comes to human boasting: it is relative.

In other words, I would never call my parents now to tell them that my twenty-one-year-old son can count to ten. I made that call about eighteen years ago. My daughter is talented, but when I applaud her artwork, I am more appreciative that she has actual artistic ability than when I complimented her drawings at age four. If someone compliments my preaching, I safely assume he must have never heard anyone else preach. Likewise, I can argue my momma was the best cook, but you probably think your momma was the best cook. Humans have simplistic, biased perspectives when it comes to bragging.

But the one thing we as children of God should all be able to agree upon is that Jesus Christ is worthy of our praise. I can rejoice in my salvation, and you can rejoice in your salvation. I often emphasize to our church that everything we do should bring honor and glory to God because He has done everything to deserve our praise.

How many of us spend as much time boasting about our Lord and Savior as we do our kids or grandkids? Without Jesus, you andI would be going to hell, separated from God for eternity. Thank God for the amazing grace He has shown to us.

REFLECTION

Do you like to tell people what you have done for Jesus, or what Jesus has done for you?
