Israel’s Favor Seen in Joseph & Moses

“You’ll never convince me that things just happen and that people who come along who can make a difference in a missionary’s work, are relatively inconsequential. That cliché about what you know as opposed to who you know, likely comes to mind very often but I am reminded that The Lord is The Great Director of the human drama. And He orchestrates things and people to His liking, for His purpose. I have known powerful people in the course of ministry both overseas and stateside and it was not because I aspired to know them. I will have to admit, though, that a lot of things have gotten done through such acquaintances!” —Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight

Had The Lord not placed His hand on Joseph, his story would never have been told. Foolishly, he gloated over the favor he had with his father, Jacob and that obviously soured his relationship with the older siblings. Having disposed of him, or so they thought, Joseph once again found favor but this time with an Egyptian prison keeper and ultimately with Pharaoh, King of Egypt. His story was a fascinating journey involving important and powerful people at every juncture and pictures for us how The Lord used him to bring about the existence of the nation of Israel. The same is noted about the life of Moses as iterated in the message of Stephen in our devotional text. We may say these were people in the right place at the right time. And that’s true. But more than that, God was overruling the affairs of all these people to accomplish His perfect will. We speak of God’s favor. That’s His leaning toward us, His reaching out to us!

An Amazing Truth! God’s inclination toward us is summed up by grace!
