David’s Praise

“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord,” Psalm 40:2, 3.

Why? It is the question of the two-year-old as well as the ninety- two-year-old. Why? We wonder about it throughout life, hoping to get an answer from someone in authority who should know. We ask why we suffer, but we also ask why we prosper. We ask why we are loved, and why we are alone. This question comes up through the good and through the bad. This short passage gives us a brief insight into the question and the answer as to why. But first, notice the actions of God.

He hears. In verse 1 David cried out for help, and God heard his cry. He saves. God came to his rescue and put David on solid ground.

He gives a song. Not only did God change David’s situation, He changed his internal perspective so that David could sing to the praise of God.

He draws. In the middle of this deliverance and David’s praise, God drew others to Himself. His deliverance was not just for David, but for many to see and trust in Him.

God does all things to bring glory to Himself, but even in bringing glory to Himself, He is doing what is best for all involved. God’s receiving all the glory brings salvation to everyone who will partake in that glory. For David, his calamity brought about a rescue, a song, a fear and a trust in the Lord. All things go back to God and His glory.

REFLECTION
Nothing escapes God’s purposes. Allow yourself to bring God glory in all circumstances.
