David’s Delight

“I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies,” Psalm 18:1-3.

A very dear friend of mine has a deep enthusiasm for butterflies. It only requires a few moments of getting to know her to learn this fact. She will usually be found wearing butterfly jewelry and clothing along with various butterfly trinkets scattered throughout her car. The inside of her house looks like a butterfly pavilion. She knows the various types of butterflies and can name them by sight. She is known for her love of butterflies by all her friends.

Many of us have something about which we are passionate. There is nothing wrong with having a hobby, collection or something to enjoy. But the question is, do you have a passion and zeal for the Lord? David absolutely did. He delighted in the Lord and gave glory to His name. He cried out to God in times of trouble and magnified Him openly in times of rejoicing. When David sinned, he repented with a contrite heart before the Lord and continued to serve Him with gladness for His great mercy and grace.

Take a moment to look inward and consider what you are truly zealous about in your life. If there is anything that comes between you and the Lord Jesus Christ, it is time to make things right with Him today. Nothing in this world will truly satisfy your soul like a close, personal relationship with your Lord and Savior. Delight yourself in Him and rejoice in His salvation. Make Christ your heart’s desire and your first love above all else.

REFLECTION
“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” (Psalm 37:4).
