Melita to Rome
“And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him,”
Acts 28:16.
I want what I want, when I want it, and how I want it. Oh, and I want it right now. Delayed gratification is a foreign concept to many these days it seems. We are a World Wide Web world and have become used to things coming to us in nanoseconds. We find it a burden if our Amazon delivery takes a week. Do you remember when mail order purchases told us to “allow six to eight weeks for delivery”? Can you imagine that today?
Paul had been waiting a long time to get to Rome. Way back when he wrote his letter to them, he expressed his desire to get to Rome and see the many brethren there that he loved. I wonder if sometimes Paul doubted he would ever make it to Rome. Even when he was arrested and began his trip to Rome as a prisoner, it must have seemed doubtful at times that he would make it. Shipwrecks and snakebites were a couple of the things that seemed to make his arrival questionable. Yet, Paul finally made it. It might not have been quite the way he imagined, as he arrived chained to a Roman soldier. He did, however, finally arrive in Rome!
Remember this, God is working His plan and not yours. His plan is infinite in both time and space. He is working toward the good of all creation, while you are likely working for your own good. On the other hand, if God has called you to something, He will complete it.
THOUGHT: God tells us He is working all things for good for his saved children. He also tells us that His timeline is not our timeline.
