The Psalmist Speaks to God

“Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications,” Psalm 130:1, 2.

When you have sinned and are in the “depths” (verse 1) of your conviction, you have to pray that God will be “attentive to the voice of” your “supplications” (verse 2). The fact that God already knows about your iniquity and that He is ready to forgive (verse 4) should bring you peace.

All sins offend God, whether public or private, so it is important for you to seek God and ask for His forgiveness. This can be hard because the enemy leads you to think that God will not forgive. You might think God will react in the same way a person would, so it keeps you from seeking forgiveness. The enemy does not want restoration but division, and he seeks to cause fear of what the other person might do.

Certainly, God wants you to be sorry for your sin, and one way you show this is to cry out to Him from the depths of your heart. The psalmist also states, if the Lord marked or kept a tally of sins, no one could stand against it. But there is forgiveness with the Lord.

The Bible holds many promises that your sins will be forgiven if you ask. You might claim God to be faithful and merciful, but it is forgotten if you say, “God will not forgive me.” To say God is faithful and merciful is to affirm those traits as a part of who He is. There are reminders throughout the Bible that this is true. (See also Psalm 103:12; Isaiah 44:22; Micah 7:19.)

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
