Jesus, the Preacher
“And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns,
that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth,” Mark 1:38.
To have a purpose or mission is very important to many people. Almost every organization has some sort of Mission Statement. In military operations, “the mission” is what everything else revolves around and supports. At an individual level, many people have goals and long-term objectives for their lives and careers. No one wants to live an aimless life with no purpose. Some might even say that a life with no purpose is no real life at all.
The Lord Jesus Christ certainly had a mission. Our Lord told us that numerous times He came for a reason, and this is one of those times. Now some might think Jesus’ purpose was to heal sick people and cure the blind because He certainly did a lot of that. But that was not His mission. Those miraculous things only supported Jesus’ main mission and purpose. In this passage, Jesus healed some folks, then He stated
that He must move onward to preach, and He also explained that was why He came to be among us. Jesus came to preach the gospel and bring souls to salvation through Himself.
That is the purpose of the Lord’s churches also. We may do a lot of other stuff that we consider important such as buildings, passenger vans, new signs and so forth, but, if they do not support and help our
efforts in spreading the gospel, they are just wasted time and money. Did you know that the same thing is true for you also? You can do a lot of stuff in your Christian life and much of it can be nothing but wasted time. As a child of God, your mission is to preach the gospel and see lost souls come to salvation.
JUST A THOUGHT: In the Lord’s churches, we have a mission statement which we call the Great Commission.
