A Confident Assurance

We have all heard the old tale of the dog who had snatched a prime piece of meat in his mouth and ran away to enjoy his find. As he searched for the perfect dining spot, he approached a body of water. Seeing his reflection in the water, he thought he was seeing an even larger piece of meat. Filled with selfish desire, he dropped what was in his mouth for what he thought was something better, only to lose them both!

Followers of Christ are not immune to carnal desires or the feeling of needing something more. We often chase after the things of this world, thinking we are missing out or lacking fulfillment. Yet, we need not be filled with covetousness, nor should we lack contentment. We possess Jesus Christ, the giver of eternal life and “every good gift” (James 1:17).

Why would we lack contentment or desire earthly things in comparison to the all-satisfying Savior of the world? He (Jesus) is the Creator (John 1). He is the Sustainer of all life and the great reconciler who made a way for us to be welcomed into the family of God (Colossians 1:15-23). He even causes our greatest heartaches and sufferings to work for our good and His glory! (Romans 8:28; 2 Corinthians 4:17, 18)

Not only can you enjoy a confident assurance regarding your eternal life, but through Christ, you also can enjoy fulfillment and contentment because you have Him! There is nothing in this life that can satisfy your needs more than a sweet fellowship with the Savior of our souls.

THOUGHT: Are you fully satisfied in Jesus, or do you continue to pursue the desires of the flesh?
