The Lord Reigns
“The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of the many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea,” Psalm 93:3, 4.
Anyone who has stood before a raging waterfall or has looked upon a raging and wild sea is in awe of the power of such wonders. There seem to be some differing interpretations about this psalm, whether the floods and waters are literal or if they allude to men of war bringing trouble among God’s people.
Either way, what needs to stand out in this psalm is, “The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength” (Psalm 93:1). The Lord is in control of the world which He has established. The waters have boundaries. Any floods roaring will have a stopping point.
Just like the waters, He has put a boundary on evil men. Though harm can be done, they only do what He allows. There are at least two reasons why the floods, which can be likened to the afflictions and trials you go through, come. One, sin brings consequences. Many times, God’s children are afflicted because they chose to disobey God. Yet, each time you cry out to Him, He shows mercy and is faithful to deliver you. A second reason why you would go through afflictions and trials is for the Lord to show His power to you.
When you find yourself up against hard times, it is easy to cry out to the Lord. Sometimes the floods do rage, and it may seem like you are drowning, but be assured that God is faithful and will deliver you for His honor and glory, for He is the One who reigns over all.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
