The Call To Exalt the Lord
“Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy,” Psalm 99:9.
One dictionary defines the word awesome like this: “Extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension or fear. ‘the awesome power of the atomic bomb.’” That definition is pretty impressive; one might even say it is awesome. On the other hand, in today’s world, we toss the word around to describe things that are not that impressive. The phrase “Awesome, dude” has been popularized in movies and TV for years. Everything seems awesome and means almost nothing like the official definition anymore.
Having said all that, we ought to remember that God is awesome. This psalm is a remembrance of God’s great power in delivering Israel from Egyptian bondage and His promise to always deliver His people. God is awesome because He is holy. He is perfect, He is transcendent, He is self- existent and eternal. That is mankind’s problem because we are none of those things. Because of that, a great gulf, the gulf of sin, separates us from our God.
This psalm calls the people to come to His holy hill and worship. We no longer have to go to one place to worship our Lord. Because Jesus came to be with us, and His Holy Spirit lives in us, we can worship Him every minute of every day, no matter where we are. That is, if you have accepted Jesus’ payment to restore you to His Father. Just like He delivered and saved His people throughout history, He will also deliver and save you. Will you accept that salvation?
JUST A THOUGHT
The simple fact is that we are not perfect and holy like God. We fall short of His standard, and that separates us from Him. However, Jesus is perfect, and accepting Him as our Savior makes us perfect in God’s eyes.
