The Boast of the Godless
“God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah,” Psalm 52:5.
The fate of the Godless will ultimately be their destruction according to the Word of God. In Acts 12, we read about Herod Agrippa, king of Judea, and how he was persecuting those of the church. He had killed James and saw that it pleased the Jews, so he then put Peter in prison. He was not concerned with justice or truth, but rather his popularity with the people. Some time later, Herod gave a great speech to the people. He sat high upon his throne with great pomp, dressed in the finest royal apparel. “And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost” (Acts 12:22, 23).
When we think of shameless boasting, no doubt politicians are the first to enter our mind. Celebrities, singers and other famous people are up there in the running as well. Just turn on the television or open any one of the many social media platforms, and you will quickly find out just how wonderful they are. What is even more concerning is the brazen celebration of sin that is taking place in our world today. Much of this ungodly promotion of evil is being done by celebrities, influencers, political leaders and those with a voice and an audience. Sadly, people are listening.
Judgment was swift with Herod. Judgment does not always come so quickly. At times it is discouraging when it appears that evil prevails, but do not fret. God will have the final word!
REFLECTION
“For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth” (Psalm 37:9).
