The First Two Attempts on David

“And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice,” (1 Samuel 18:11).

There is a legend of Divine protection of General George Washington in the Battle of Monongahela in the French and Indian War. Washington himself told how he had four bullets in his coat and how two horses had been shot out from under him, but he had not been wounded in the battle though all the other officers had been injured and there were great numbers of soldiers hurt and killed in the battle. An old Indian chief who was at the battle latter told of how they could not seem to hit him even though they were targeting him and that a power mightier than them had protected him during the battle. Like Washington, God was protecting David from King Saul’s attempts on his life because He still had great plans for his life.

Saul had grown jealous of David because he was beginning to get a better reputation among the people than Saul (1 Samuel 18:6-9). Saul also recognized that God was with David, “And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul,” (1 Samuel 18:12). David had behaved himself wisely in all matters and it was apparent that they Lord was with him, this also made Saul afraid of him (1Samuel 18:14, 15). If we will ask for and seek God’s wisdom in our lives, then others will see it also, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him,” (James 1:5). David did not do anything against Saul but he was jealous of God being with David.

JUST A THOUGHT: Godly wisdom will not only give you advantage with your endeavors in life but will also help protect you when others intend to harm you. Flee to God for your protection.
