The Lord’s Message to Samuel
“In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end,” I Samuel 3:12.
Throughout God’s Word we see that the Lord begins preparing men to become His faithful servants from the moment they are born. In His infinite knowledge, He raises them up with parents and teachers to help shape their lives so they may grow into the leaders He desires them to be. We have an amazing example of this in the life of Moses. Oh, how his mother must have rejoiced when she was called by the daughter of Pharaoh to nurse him during those formative years. There is no doubt that she taught him much about the God of Israel during their time together.
In Samuel’s case, his mother had kept her vow and dedicated him to the Lord to serve at the Temple under Eli. Samuel was just a child and would have held Eli in great respect, looking to him as a teacher and even a father figure. It must have been a difficult message to hear that his mentor had sinned against the Lord and would be judged. Although this news was troublesome to young Samuel, it was necessary for he needed to understand that sin comes with consequences. Samuel learned this at a tender age and the Lord used it to make him into a great leader.
You also have an impact on the young ones in your life. God can use you to help teach and mold them into the leaders He wants them to be. Do not look lightly upon this great responsibility for those young eyes are watching. May we be mindful of our example and faithful to prepare and train those whom God will use for His glory.
REFLECTION: “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also” (II Timothy 1:5)
