Things That Accompany Salvation

If your child is not growing, you would worriedly take the child to the doctor to see what was wrong. But how seldom does the same worry accompany the lack of growth in a child of God. Too many Christians are still in the baby stage of their new birth in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:1, 2). As God has commanded us, you are to be growing in your relationship with God (2 Peter 3:18).

In Hebrews 6:1, 2, the writer tells you that you should be completely settled and growing beyond the elementary doctrines of Christ. Some might look at this list and wonder how these are elementary doctrines, but this only shows your need for growth. Growing spiritually requires much study of the Scriptures (1 Peter 2:2) and being faithful to Sunday School and other Bible studies. When you as a child of God neglect the deep study of His Word, you remain a spiritual infant.

In Hebrews 6:4-6, the writer describes an impossibility. The impossibility is for a genuine child of God to fall away. The implication is that as a born-again believer, you cannot abandon your faith and become unsaved. It is a resounding passage on the security of the believer, but it is also a warning that you should make sure that you are genuinely saved. A sign that you are genuinely saved is spiritual growth. When this growth is not present, you need to search your heart to see if you are truly saved? Just as with your children, if they are not growing, something is terribly wrong.

Thought: God’s children grow spiritually.
