The Godly and the Godless

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night,” Psalm 1:1, 2.

A very dear sister in Christ recently went to her home in Heaven to be with the Lord. She was a pastor’s wife, well known for her strong, steady faith and love for the Savior. Although her husband had passed away many years before, she continued to serve the Lord faithfully into her old age. She was a mighty prayer warrior and a great encourager of God’s people. What an amazing impact she has had on so many, and her legacy of faith will live on.

Those who are godly will bear fruit for the Lord. How many times have you looked at someone and wondered how he can be so strong in a very difficult situation? This does not simply happen by chance. It comes from a close relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a love for the truth of His Word. Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me” (John 15:4). The way of the godless is exactly the opposite: dry, barren and fruitless. There is nothing lasting or worthwhile from this way of life.

When this short life is over, what is the substance that will remain of your life? A godly life is a testimony of Christ and His love. It is an encouragement to others to stand firm and faithful to the end and finish well. An ungodly life is like the chaff that is carried away with the wind. The choice is up to you.

REFLECTION
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).
