The Anointing of Jehu

“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night,” 1 Thessalonians 5:2.

Jehu received his commission from the prophet Elisha, who sent a young prophet to anoint him and deliver a message of divine judgment against the house of Ahab. Jehu’s anointing served as a powerful reminder of God’s sovereignty and His faithfulness to His Word. Throughout the reign of Ahab and his wicked descendants, God had promised to bring judgment upon the house of Ahab for their idolatry and disobedience. With the anointing of Jehu, God’s prophetic word began to unfold.

Jehu was chosen as God’s instrument of judgment, tasked with executing divine justice upon the house of Ahab. His anointing signified God’s authority and empowerment for the task ahead. Jehu was to execute God’s judgment without hesitation or compromise, purging the land of idolatry and wickedness.

Jehu’s anointing challenges us to consider our own response to God’s call. Like Jehu, we are called to be obedient to God’s commands and to fulfill the tasks He has entrusted to us. Whether big or small, our obedience to God’s call can have far-reaching consequences in advancing His kingdom and fulfilling His purposes on earth.

DAILY CHALLENGE

Let us heed the example of Jehu, embracing God’s call with courage and determination. May we be faithful instruments of God’s justice and mercy, proclaiming His truth and righteousness in a world in need of redemption.
