The Lord's Omniscience

“Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways,” Psalm 139:2, 3.

There is an old adage about how mothers have eyes in the back of their heads. That is because if we were involved in something evil, mother always seemed to know it, even if we thought we were being sneaky. Looking back, we know mom really did not have extra eyes; she just knew us very well and knew what we were probably up to. It may have seemed she was omniscient, but really she was not; she had just learned us and our patterns.

On the other hand, God is omniscient or all-knowing. God’s knowledge is complete. God knows everything. He knows our thoughts and our plans. Did you know God knows what you will eat for lunch today? How can we understand this? The answer is that we cannot. Such knowledge is not understandable by finite human minds. This is just as well; after all, who really wants to serve a God we can fully understand? Such a deity would not be worthy of our devotion and worship.

God did not just create this earth and then turn it loose to run its course. The very fact that this planet even continues to exist is because God keeps all the variables in place that keep us all from dying. He has that same involvement in your daily life. Whatever happens to you is because God has allowed it. If you get blessed, it is because God blessed you. You may think you are not being blessed, but stop and take inventory of all that God is doing in your life. Most importantly, God knows if you are truly one of His or just putting on a show. Are you His?

JUST A THOUGHT
If you knew that God knew, would you do things differently? Guess what? He does know.
