Jesus Provides for the Multitude

“And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people. And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away,” Mark 8:6-9

Jesus, once again, provided food for the large crowd who had
followed Him and listened to His teaching. In similar fashion as before, Jesus took what food the disciples had and multiplied it miraculously to meet the need. The crowd had lingered until dinner time listening to His preaching. So, Jesus chose to meet their physical needs in a show of compassion and eternal practicality.

The wonder of the miracle cannot be overstated. Jesus took a few morsels of food and divided it among thousands of people. However, we should not miss the fact that Jesus compassionately saw their practical needs and worked to provide for them. The fact that just a small amount of food fed thousands is a tremendous miracle. But we should recognize that Jesus knew their needs and chose to attend to them out of love.

No matter what you and I have need of, it should comfort us to know
that Jesus sees our needs and He knows exactly how and when to provide for us. If Jesus can recognize a need and take a small portion to provide dinner for a large crowd, He can certainly see and meet your every need.

FINAL THOUGHT: There is no need too great or too small that your loving Savior does not see. He knows your needs and you can trust Him to provide.
