Jesus Transfigured
“And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them,” Mark 9:2,3.
The word metamorphosis means something has changed. Even though there are numerous insects, amphibians and fish that undergo this process, one that is probably most familiar is the change of a caterpillar to a butterfly. This change is often used as an analogy of how Christ has made you a new creation. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Transfiguration is a synonym to metamorphosis and means a change in form or appearance, an exalting, glorifying or spiritual change. Jesus was changed from His earthly body to His heavenly body as a witness of things to come. Three of His disciples witnessed this glorious change as a testimony of who Jesus is, the Son of God.
As the four of them were coming down the mountain, Jesus
commanded the three to not tell anyone what they had seen until after His resurrection. Any time Jesus had alluded to His death and resurrection they did not understand everything He meant. Yet afterward His apostles became great witnesses for the gospel.
Peter wrote of the transfiguration in 2 Peter 1:16-18, that they were eyewitnesses of His majesty. Jesus gave His apostles many signs that He was the Messiah, the Son God so they would believe and continue to grow in faith.
These things were written for your encouragement so you would believe all Jesus said and did so you may continue to grow in faith.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: The Bible gives great hope to continue in the ways of Jesus because it is not always easy to stay the course. Look in His Word for the strength you need.
