David’s Concern and Confidence
“Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Lord . . . Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified,” Psalm 70:1,4.
Have you ever had a water pipe burst in your home? When it happens, it becomes an item of immediate concern when water starts flowing everywhere. It becomes very important to know where the main water shut-off valve is to your house. I once had a pipe burst in the line near the street and had to call the water department to come out and shut off the water at the street. I worried the whole time while waiting for them to arrive because water was spewing everywhere and running down the street. When the person from the water department showed up, I became confident that the water problem was going to be resolved and the valve would be shut off.
This psalm helps us to remember that when we are concerned about issues and people in our lives who seem to be against us, we can have great confidence in our Lord (verse 1). No matter what situation in which we find ourselves, we can remember, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea” (Psalm 46:1, 2). So, when we look to the Lord with our concerns, we can rejoice because we have confidence in Him, and we can constantly magnify Him and his name (Psalm 70:4). Many times our concerns in this life outweigh our confidence in the Lord and His ability to take care of our needs, so we need to be reminded because He needs to be magnified.
REFLECTION
When the Lord shows up for the problem or concerns we have in life, we can have complete confidence that He is in control.
