The Holy Spirit’s Work

“Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without wind . . . Like branches without sap . . . Like coals without fire, we are useless.”—Charles Spurgeon
Much more than a cute cartoon character telling us right from wrong, God sent His Holy Spirit to guide us and empower us to accomplish His will. The Bible instructs us, and the Holy Spirit convicts us to flee from sin and pursue righteousness in all things. We may tend to avoid any correction when we sin, but the Holy Spirit will consistently guide us into the perfect will of God. We need only to yield to His conviction.
We must also remember that God’s Holy Spirit needs no assistance from sinful Christians in the work of convicting and convincing others of His will. Well-intended Christians may occasionally intervene in the work of God when we do not see Him accomplishing what we think ought to be accomplished in the time we think it ought to be. We need only to proclaim His Word and obey His Word then yield to the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives and the lives of others.
Not only does the Holy Spirit guide Christians, but the Bible also tells us that He is at work convicting unbelievers of sin, righteousness and judgment. He accomplishes this work by empowering Christians to live a godly life that tells of His goodness. He also accomplishes this by empowering Christians to declare His Word in the world. When we declare the Word of God, the Spirit of God accompanies His Word and accomplishes His work in the hearts of unbelievers.

REFLECTION: Allowing the Holy Spirit to have free reign in our lives will accomplish the will of God with great power.
