David Receives a Prophecy
“But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore,” 1 Chronicles 17:14.
I am so thankful God’s promises are not taken away from us when we mess up. Even after every mistake David had made, God recognized his repentant spirit and blessed him far beyond what he could imagine.
After bringing the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem, David longed to build the Temple to create a permanent house of God. When he told the prophet Nathan this, Nathan simply instructed him to do whatever he desired to do because it was well known that the Lord was with David. God intervened here because He wanted to do something greater through David than building a physical house. God planned to establish an eternal kingdom through the lineage of David. Talk about an upgrade! God instructed Nathan to give David this prophecy and established a covenant with him. God told David not to build a house because He would instead build a house through David’s bloodline. He explained in verses 7, 8 that He chose David from the sheepfold and would continue to bless his lineage. His son (Solomon) would build the Temple, but God would also send His Son (Jesus) through David’s bloodline to establish a kingdom for evermore (verse 14).
Sometimes we want to serve God and honor Him, but we have an idea in our head of what that should look like. God may be trying to use your servant heart in a way greater than you can possibly imagine, or you could be exactly where He wants you to be. We must be intentional to seek God’s guidance in our lives and prevent ourselves from limiting how God can use us.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Pray earnestly and listen to the will of God for how He may be trying to use you for His honor and glory. It may be in an unexpected way.
