How God Deals with Sin

“By mistake, through failure to follow the Captain’s orders, the outboard motor on one of Nativa’s tenders, fell off and plunged beneath the sea’s surface. The chart indicated the depth at that point to be approximately two miles. Out of curiosity and with little else to do, I tried to imagine how long it would take that motor to reach the bottom. Surprisingly, because of terminal velocity with the earth’s gravitational pull, it must have landed on the floor within 7-8 minutes. But to retrieve it? No, it was gone forever.” —Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight
Within sight of our home port anchorage lies the Palau Trench, which is actually the southern terminus of the Mariana Trench. The Mariana Trench and the Philippine Trench to our west are some of the deepest trenches in the ocean (almost seven miles deep). We have often sailed over both. It is a thought to consider when crossing such water, that keeping the ship afloat is of utmost importance! I am always reminded of what is said regarding the sin that we confess before our God and what He does in response to such confession. And our devotional text speaks of it. God is so compassionate, so loving, so willing to forgive our wrongdoing that He is patient, waiting for our move toward Him in humility. Israel shows us a great lesson in Micah’s prophecy. To be sure, God is just. His indictment against sin is serious and demanding. But He loves and delights in mercy. He removes the guilt of sin from us, and He casts it irretrievably away through Jesus Christ!

AN AMAZING TRUTH: Confession of sin and faith in God’s forgiveness
brings great happiness in life! (See 1 John 1:9.)
