Pray, Ask, Seek and Knock

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it
shall be opened,” Matthew 7:7, 8.

“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; Prayer is the greater work.”—Oswald Chambers

God has given us prayer as a means of communication with Him in our times of celebration or suffering. What an extraordinary honor it is for children of God to regularly communicate our burdens and our blessings with the Creator of the universe! Yet, sometimes, we neglect prayer as if it is not the most powerful spiritual weapon in the arsenal of a child of God.

Whenever a need arises or a crisis confronts us, it should be normal for the child of God to kneel in prayer immediately. We may turn to the counsel of good and godly friends to figure what we should do. But there is no greater counselor than the God of the ages who is all-knowing and

all-powerful. There is wisdom in counseling with wise Christian friends where we find strength and biblical wisdom. Yet, we have no greater strength than when we are on our knees in prayer.

When blessings come, expected or not, we ought to drop to our knees in a prayer of thanksgiving. Prayer is a personal time of worship in which we can praise God for who He is and thank Him for what He has done. Prayers of thanksgiving nurture a heart of humble gratitude to

our loving Father.

We may find it easy to give up on prayer if we do not see the response from God for which we hope. Yet, God has given us prayer so that we may embrace Him through the good times and the difficult. His answer may not come in the time we want or in the manner we hope. Yet, He invites us to continue seeking His face in humble persistence until He reveals His will to us.

REFLECTION

Even when it seems your prayers are unanswered,

keep asking, seeking, and knocking.
