Do Not Be Weary in Well Doing
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not;' Galatians 6:9.
I had a friend in college that was not saved. I would talk to him about Jesus, andI wouldanswer hismany questions. Hehadtrust issues, soit was difficult for him to place his faith in a Savior that he could not physically see. I took him to churches in his area to expose him to the gospel. I got him involved in the local Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship at the college. I prayed for him often. I could speak candidly in front of him to others about his need for a Savior. He was not shy about the fact that he was not saved, and he was not resistant to the idea of salvation. He simply struggled to trust Jesus.
After a couple of years of trying whatever I knew to do to lead him to Jesus, I took him to my home church with me, as I had done a couple of times prior. After dismissal, we went outside as usual. I was visiting with some friends and getting ready to leave when I realized my friend was not with me. I was about to go back inside the church when someone told me my buddy had asked the preacher if he could talk to him. Sure enough, my friend came outside a few minutes later and professed salvation. I was overjoyed.
Sometimes we invest so much in someone that we get discouraged when that person is not saved immediately. I learned long ago that there is only so much I can do. Sometimes all we can do is pray. But do not give up. If you have someone you know who needs Jesus, do not get discouraged. I was first convicted when I was eight, but not saved until I was thirteen. I am so grateful that the people in my life didnot give up on me.
