Preach the Word

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort
with all longsuffering and doctrine,” 2 Timothy 4:2.

The fear of public speaking is, for many people, one of the biggest fears that they can face. I have seen surveys that suggest it ranks almost as high as the fear of death with some folks. A common refrain is, “I do not know what I am supposed to say!” That is a valid fear; no one wants to feel unprepared, or that he does not have words to say that are appropriate. One does not want to appear stupid, unprepared or ignorant. One does not want to be embarrassed.

Fortunately, God does not leave us in a position where we have to think of words to say. We do not have to fear speaking up for Jesus, because God the Father has given us the message. This is good because, as we see in our passage, we are clearly commanded what we are to be doing. We are to preach the Word. We are to be ready always, fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit and correct doctrine. Paul gave this message to Timothy, but God is never accidental in His words. They are there because there is an application for use.

What are we to do? This scares us! It is not that hard. First, you have to be ready. If you are saved, you have to understand how that happened. The simplicity of it is simple. Even a child can understand it. The gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus which covered your sin and gives new life.

As a final note, you have to understand your role. We call it witnessing for a reason. All you are required to tell is what happened to you, and what you saw. We are witnesses, not lawyers!

JUST A THOUGHT
God told Jeremiah not to be afraid of their faces,
for God was with him which applies to all of us as well.
