God’s Strength
“For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me,” 2 Samuel 22:40.
I find it remarkable how quickly people forget about the Lord. I am not talking about the lost world. I am talking about Christians who seek God’s help with something, but once they get what they want, they forget to thank God for the blessing. My family always prays before we go on a long trip. I was raised to do that, and I am now teaching the practice to my children. Sadly, with the exception of a couple of times, I did not remember to thank God for the safe trip upon arrival. If it was important enough for me to pray about on the front end, was it not also important enough for me to give God the glory after He blessed us? How often we forget about the Lord once we get what we want!
If you have read 2 Samuel 22, you know this chapter is a psalm of thanksgiving. David recognized that throughout his reign, God had delivered his many enemies into his hand. Thanks to God, David had won many battles in his life. He understood that the victory was the Lord’s and not his alone. We are able to do what we do because God blesses us. We have what we have because He blesses us. When we are victorious in life, it is because of God. When we lose battles, it is usually because of our selfishness. David praised God for all His blessings and gave God the ultimate glory for the victories in his life.
David did not always honor God through his actions. But after some very tough life lessons and true repentance, David finally (and fully) appreciated who God was and the good that God had done in his life. Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
JUST A THOUGHT
Do we honor and glorify God in all we do? He deserves it, and we know it.
