Covenant with Believers

I love John chapter 10 especially the Good Shepherd parable Jesus told to show what an amazing relationship believers have with Him. I encourage you to read all of it, John 10:1-30. I especially love this statement of assurance to us: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (verses 27, 28). How much clearer can you get on security of the believer?

Every time I read this passage; I think of my grandpa. He was not a shepherd; he was a cattle farmer. Growing up, I lived on his farm and watched him lead his cows around like sheep. Throughout the year, he fed his cows grain with a yellow five-gallon bucket. All he had to do was go out into the pasture with his yellow five-gallon bucket and call, “Soo-ook, sook, sook, sook,” and they came running. He could lead them anywhere. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “The sheep follow him: for they know his voice” (verse 4).

Jesus has a very special relationship with all believers. He gave His life for His sheep. The sheep follow Him. They know His voice; He knows His sheep. He leads them and protects them. He saves them and gives them life abundantly. He gives them eternal life, and no one can take their eternal life away. I think you see now why I love this passage so much.

Thought: Jesus is my Good Shepherd!
