Teach Future Generations

“We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done,” Psalm 78:4.

How precious and close to our hearts are family photos and traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. We fondly recall those special memories and desire for our children and grandchildren to know and appreciate their family history as well. It can truly be heartbreaking when traditions are forgotten or completely destroyed altogether.

The Psalmist is giving an admonishment here to do this very thing with the Word of God. As parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and teachers of God’s Word, we have been entrusted with the lives of children that need the truth. It is our responsibility to teach them about the Lord Jesus Christ and to keep His commandments. “That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments” (Psalm 78:7).

  Consider how extremely vital the truth of God’s Word is today. We are witnessing a world where wickedness abounds as never before; where evil is called good and good is called evil. Children are being fed lies at a very young age and it is high time for us to step up and be the bold leaders and teachers our children and young people need. Consider those you have influence over in your life. Take time to share the Gospel of Christ with them and share your testimony as well. They need to know about the church that Christ built and how to build upon the foundation that has been laid. We cannot take a passive role in this. May we be faithful to pass along the torch and keep it burning bright from generation to generation.

REFLECTION: “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up” (Deuteronomy 6:7)
