David’s Distress
“In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears,” Psalm 18:6.
It was embarrassing, but shortly after we moved into our house on the farm, blue lights filled the driveway. We were surprised to hear the knock on the door and to see the officer at the door. Evidently, I had pocket- called 911. Dispatch answered the call, and of course, no one from my phone was there. Because they had received a 911 call from this number and address, they had to come check out the situation. It was good to know that the system works. If there is a problem, something will be done. The system is imperfect, but it works.
How much more access to help do we have in Jesus? When in times of distress, we can reach out to more than the police. We can reach out to more than a help line. We have full access to God. This should amaze us more than it probably does. We have heard this truth our whole lives, and we have utilized this truth our whole lives. We can enter into the very throne room of God with our problems, our distress and even our small talk, and He listens. We have the ear of Almighty God. He is there to listen and to respond. We should be amazed at this. Likewise, we should take advantage of this. God invites us into His presence. He commands us into His presence. When we fail to come to God with our distress, at best we are foolish for not doing so, and at the worst, we are disobedient.
God hears, and He knows. Not only does He respond to our call, He knows our need even before we do.
PRAYER
“Father, draw me close to you in peace so I will already be there in distress. I need you now and always. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
