The Sovereignty of the Lord
“The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men,” Psalm 11:4.
I was raised in a very patriotic home. My father instilled within me a love for America and a deep appreciation of its history. I was taught how the pilgrims endured great hardship to come out from under the tyranny of the king and find the religious freedom they so longed to have. They yearned for a nation where God would be King and they could worship Him freely. Eventually, the Lord raised up George Washington, a godly man of prayer, to lead the Continental Army to victory. When the people wanted to make Washington their king, he refused. He understood that God alone is sovereign over the nations and ruler over all.
America has a rich history built on biblical values and the Christian faith. There were many godly men that suffered much and put their lives on the line to ensure the proper foundations were laid for this nation. They went to great lengths to include our sovereign Creator within our nation’s documents as well as etching Bible verses into the walls of our government buildings. And yet, in these last days, wicked leaders have risen to power who seek to distort the facts of history and destroy the foundations that have been laid. “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (verse 3).
We must remember that Almighty God is still on His throne. He will never relinquish His power, and the great evil we see in the world today does not take Him by surprise. All things will be brought into judgment one day, so stand firm. Continue to share Christ with others and stay true to Him. Our Savior is sovereign over all, and one day soon He will rule and reign on the earth.

Is the Lord on the throne in your daily life? Is He on the throne in your family’s life?
