Paul and Silas Leave for Asia Minor

“And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches,” Acts 15:40, 41.

Dr. June Godbehere was a faithful Christian, Missionary Baptist pastor, seminary professor and mentor to many. He would often quote Isaiah 28:10, “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” He longed to instill in Christians the immeasurable value of repeatedly studying, teaching and sharing biblical precepts for the sake of peace in the settled truth of God’s Word. He was known for continually repeating core biblical truths over and over to be sure that God’s Word was planted deep in the hearts of believers.
Our key verses speak of the Antioch church sending Paul and Silas to confirm the truth of the gospel among the churches. Somewhere along the way in the short history of Christianity, false teachers had twisted the truth of the gospel. These false teachers were preaching that man must keep the Law along with faith in Christ to be saved. Satan has always thrived in causing confusion among believers by causing doubt where there are gaps in our personal convictions. Without continual teaching of the truth, it is possible for false teachings to creep into the heart of believers.
God’s Word declares that salvation is His gift to us through faith in His Son, Jesus. This truth seems so simple, yet it must continually be proclaimed to avoid any opportunity for Satan to mislead and confuse. Satan does not always plant outright lies in the minds of people. He often takes the truth and twists it just a little or sprinkles in some lies with the truth. Without continual study of God’s Word, it can be possible for Satan to cause doubt and confusion in the mind of the most devout Christian.

REFLECTION: We cannot overstate the truth that Jesus saves through faith in Him.
