The Exhortation to the Disciples
“Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work,” 2 Thessalonians 2:17.
Everybody needs somebody sometimes. Life is difficult and sometimes can be overwhelming. Many go through life, enduring the trials of it, and have no one to stand beside them during those difficult times. That must be tough beyond comprehension. There is an epidemic of loneliness today because so many do not have anyone to turn to in times of need. The last few years have only worsened this; people are removed from direct personal interaction in ways never seen in history. People are both worried and alone, and this is a terrible combination to live with.
The church at Thessalonica certainly had some worries. Folks had crept in and were questioning the return of Jesus as a reality. In a nutshell, some of the believers were worried God had left them alone to face the trial of life here on earth. Paul sent not just one but two letters to reassure them. Our devotional verse closes this chapter to the believers in this church. Every single word in the Bible applies to us today. What we have seen in these letters seems especially applicable to us today, as we face many of the same issues as this church.
You are not alone. You are never alone, no matter what you face, what happens or who comes after you. That is, if the gift of God’s grace has saved you. By the power of the Holy Spirit living in us, we can overcome any obstacle and face any foe. That is what Paul was teaching these disciples, and that is what he is teaching you. Are you saved by Jesus and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, or are you facing the trials of this life alone?
JUST A THOUGHT
If you have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, you are never alone. Jesus is with you every minute of every day.
