Make It as sure as Ye Can

“Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first,” Matthew 27:64.

Many people cite as their reason for non-belief in God there is simply “not enough proof!” These same people would probably not believe if Jesus sat next to them on a park bench and performed a miracle right in front of their eyes. How can this be so? Because people will behave in accordance with their worldview, no matter what proof may be right in front of their eyes. This is called confirmation bias, when folks only believe the evidence that fits the conclusion they have already reached.

The members of the Jewish Sanhedrin were doing far more here than simply ignoring evidence. They were actively suppressing evidence. This had gone from simple ignorance to willful ignorance, even malice. These men knew what Jesus had said about His resurrection, and they simply had to stop it, even by lying. It is ironic really, that the non-believing Jews seemed to understand what Jesus had said about rising from the dead better than His own disciples!

The resurrection is the most important event in human history. While it is true that our sin debt was paid on the cross, the resurrection is what brings life. God’s Word teaches us that if Jesus had stayed dead, so would we still be dead in our sins. His return to life gives us life also. What will you do with the evidence? No matter how they denied and manipulated the evidence, the fact remains that Jesus rose from that grave and gave the world the opportunity for eternal life with Him. Will you believe it or ignore it like the non-believers?

JUST A THOUGHT: An open mind leads to an open heart, which can lead to a change in our worldview.
