Ruth’s Grandson’s Branch—King of All

A great prophecy was to be revealed. The prophet readied his pen expectantly for the Word of the Lord. Sometimes the prophecy was of Jerusalem and other times it was of lands far away. Isaiah remembered the first time God had called and his heart still echoed the words he had responded with that day, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I, send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

The Lord began to speak. First of Isaiah’s people, then of Assyria then of the country to the north, Lebanon. But wait, what is this? “For unto us a child is born” (Isaiah 9:6). The Lord continued speaking of destruction from Syria and the peoples of the coast. Fire would come. All would be consumed. People would perish from hunger. Devastation would be everywhere with no hope in sight. Then the Lord spoke of hope. Just when the mighty family tree of the house of Israel was to be cut off at its root, a stem would appear. From the line of Jesse, Ruth’s grandson, there would appear a branch.

It would be a royal line. There would be a King of kings. He was then and is now Jesus. The spirit of the Lord is His and He will be full of the spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. His reign will put all things right. Justice will prevail. The poor will be judged fairly, and all will live together.

REFLECTION: Will you tell of Jesus the King of all during this holiday season? Will you say, “Here am I, send me”?
