Lead Your Family

When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God came looking for them even though they had been taken captive by the enemy. God continues to look for those who are aliens to him through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the convicting power of the Holy Spirit and the preaching of the Word of God. When God sent His only Son Jesus, He offered to all who would believe everlasting life. This everlasting life will rescue those who believe from the captivity of the enemy.

God knows us so intimately. His Word explains that He discerns the thoughts and intents of each heart. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). God spoke of Abraham’s thought and intent and definitively declared, “I know him.” Abraham’s intent was to command his children and his servants to keep “the way of the Lord,” to “do justice and judgement” (Genesis 18:19). Abraham understood that the blessing of God was dependent on not just him but also his household being in good standing with his Lord.

It is often said that we must take personal responsibility for our actions. The Scripture bears out a further principle that we are responsible for the actions of the members of our household. While each family member is accountable for his own sin before the righteous judge, God will not bless your family to the extent that He would when sin lies within your family unit.

REFLECTION: Have you allowed sin within your family to affect the way God is blessing them?
