Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole

“And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole;
go in peace, and be whole of thy plague,” Mark 5:34.

The woman in our devotional story had been sick for twelve years, spent all of her money and had not gotten better, but worse. It is not uncommon for things like that to happen today. Thank God for the advances in medical treatments we are blessed with today. Still, people spend their entire lives and fortunes trying to fix some problem or another in their lives. That is why self-help books remain bestsellers. We always have something wrong, and somebody else always has a solution.

As humans, we all have that in common because we are all sick, and we all have the same thing wrong with us. Sin is not some pandemic that strikes some people and spares others. Every human suffers the effects of sin and needs to be cured. Jesus was the cure in the days of this woman, and He still is today. Jesus informed this woman that her faith had made her whole. It is interesting that this phrase could also be rendered as to save, rescue or deliver.

Jesus healed many people. They came to him from all over because they heard of His healing. He even raised the dead! Yet, He always made it clear that physical healing was not the point, but spiritual healing. He told us this clearly. “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Even today, many preach that Jesus has come to make everything better in our lives here on earth—this is only partially true. Jesus came to make your life better for eternity by curing what really ails you, and that is the sin of unbelief.

JUST A THOUGHT: What good is being healed from some physical malady, only to suffer eternal death from your spiritual one?
