Comforting Presence

The little boy sat wide-eyed like he always did when his dad told stories; stories of heroes named Moses, Joshua, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Two had walked through rivers on dry land and the others survived fire without a hair being burned. He longed to have adventures like them, but he thought, who am I that God would use me like that? Suddenly, Dad asked, “Misha, will you be afraid when God asks you to do something like these believers?”

God is always preparing His people to play a part in the grand plan of redemption. Jesus, our Savior, satisfied the wrath of God when He played his part in the plan by dying on the cross of Calvary to pay for the sins of the world. We, on the other hand, still have a part to play in God’s plan if we still have breath. God, who bought us at the price of the blood of His Son, chooses to use believers to show His marvelous wisdom until the end of this age.

God has called on many a believer to endure the seemingly impossible, to fight when no one else would or to stand alone against all odds. For comfort, in the uncomfortable assignments, He gives each of us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. His Spirit then reminds us through His Word of all the times when God has brought us and others through trial and tribulation. He would even remind us of the people He has given up so that we can live the lives that He is asking us to live.

“No, Father,” Misha replied thoughtfully. He continued after a moment, “Why should I be afraid? If God took care of them, I am sure he will take care of me, too.”

REFLECTION: Will you be afraid when God asks you to do something hard today?
