Judgments of the Lord

“The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether,” Psalm 19:9.

I used to go to church with a rice farmer. He was paid by the government not to plant nor rotate any crops in those fields. When asked why he did not rotate his crops, he would reply that he did not need to since we now have fertilizers and there was no need to follow what the Lord had taught the children of Israel to do. After becoming convicted that he should trust the judgments of the Lord in this matter, he began to rotate his crops and his yield was substantially more than he had ever had before, and his profits increased dramatically.

So many people today think that our modern ways and ideas are superior to those of the Bible. When we refuse to acknowledge God as being the One who knows all things, we open ourselves up to the discipline He warns us of and rob ourselves of the blessings that can only come from faithfully following Him and His ways. Many of the Lord’s precepts may not make any sense to us or the world, but that does not mean they will not work. Whatever God is trying to tell us, “Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward” (Psalm 19:11). It is time for us to not just think of God’s Word as a collection of some good old stories but learn from it and allow it to change and reward our lives.

REFLECTION: Whether we are learning from what God did through Israel or what Jesus taught us in the New Testament, God’s Word and teachings will always be true, and we will be blessed for following His commands.
