David’s Psalm of Praise

“Sing unto the Lord, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations,” 1 Chronicles 16:23, 24.

I am often amazed by the complexity of the human body and the way God has designed us. Did you know that singing reduces stress and anxiety? Did you know that it also increases the endorphins in our brains which leads to feelings of trust, security and bonding? Did you know that I can remember every single word to a Grandy’s commercial jingle that I heard on the radio when I was seven, but I cannot remember why I walked into the kitchen? I could spend all day talking about how intricate details of science prove the existence of a marvelous Creator worthy of our praise. David is known for many things throughout Scripture, and one of those was his love of music and psalms. Notice that while bringing the ark into the city there was constant music and praise. He appointed Levites to care for the ark of the covenant and all the holy things in the tent, but he specifically appointed people to play instruments, sing and create songs of praise. The first psalm David delivered after bringing the ark into the tent was recorded in verses 8-36. David was instructing his people to give praise where praise was due. He could have easily said, “Look at all that I have accomplished! I am a mighty warrior, I am a valiant king, and I have brought the ark to make Jerusalem a holy city!” Instead, he made sure that all the glory and the praise was lifted to the appropriate recipient. He told them to not only remember what the Lord had done but to declare it and sing about it!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Sing to the Lord today. Anywhere. Everywhere. Sing about what He has done for you. Sing about His goodness, even if you are in the midst of a trial or valley. He is worthy!
