Perilous Times

“This is the photograph of the present age, and I do not doubt that Paul spoke of it when thus the spirit of prophecy was upon him. This is the very motto of the present age, ‘Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.’ It glories in knowing nothing; and its great boast is in its continual progress, ‘never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.’”—Charles Spurgeon
It is true that we live in perilous times. It seems as if sinful mankind continues to invent new forms of wickedness daily. Satan seems to be gaining more and more control of the world system with great speed. However dark this world may seem we are not the first generation to experience the overwhelming power of Satan upon this earth. We must remember that none of what is happening is out of God’s control.
Christians may develop a defeated spirit and cry that the sky is falling as they watch world events unfold. Christians do not need to be dismayed at what occurs in this fallen world. God has informed them that these things must occur prior to Christ’s return. None of this is out of His control. Christians must take heart that God is still in control and His commands for Christians remain the same, no matter how dark it seems.
In the darkest of rooms, a small flicker of light will pierce the darkness. Christians must shine the light of Christ in the darkness to show the lost world that there is hope in Jesus. “Perilous times” hints of chaos and disorder. There is peace and calm for the one who knows Christ. Christians have the distinct opportunity of displaying the peace which passes all understanding in a world filled with chaos and disorder.

REFLECTION: No matter how chaotic and dark this sinful world may seem, Jesus Christ is the hope for all mankind. May we be found faithful sharing the hope and peace that only Christ can give.
