Persistent Prayer

“And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear
long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of
man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:7, 8.

“How often do I need to speak to the Lord of this need? Is it that He requires a reminder and this is why I must repeat it over and over to Him? Is He busy with so many things that I need actually to await my turn in the queue of millions of people attempting to gain an audience? Or does He hear the very first time I voice my request? And are the prayers that follow regarding it, expressive of my lack of faith? I’ve been to the very edge of giving up, only to be drawn back again by the same requests made of the Lord and to find there, a special comfort even before an answer was given.” (In a time of deep sorrow)—Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight

Perhaps there is not a single feeling of loneliness that surpasses that of having a serious need and finding that no one cares. There is a sense of helplessness that accompanies it. And what follows is often despair.  Oddly, in such cases one might even confide his need in an absolute stranger. And sadly, a stranger may be the only one who listens but has little he can do to help due to the transience of that relationship. One longs for someone else who is fixed in a meaningful relationship with him upon whom he might confidently depend. It might be a spouse or a parent, a brother or sister, a neighbor who one has sought out for guidance. But sometimes even this guidance leaves him with greater heartache. But there is One who is always near and will never fail. And He is Jesus. Read 1 Peter 5:6, 7. So why continually pray over an issue? Because prayer changes more than circumstances. It changes us!

AN AMAZING TRUTH
Patience in prayer causes us to see the real needs.
