The Gospel Is for Every Creature

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature,” Mark 16:15.

At the beginning of Sunday School, a dear sister raised her hand and requested prayer for the salvation of family friends. She stated “they are some wonderful people. I’d love for them to be saved and baptized and serve the Lord here with us.” Another church member raised his hand and asked prayer for a neighbor. He stated “My neighbor is an alcoholic and so far from God. Please pray for God to save him.” Both the wonderful people and the alcoholic neighbor need Christ.

Humans have the tendency to build their lives around people like themselves. We find those who live near us and who enjoy the same activities and may even vote like us. It is natural and normal for us to live life near to those most like us. But the Christian ought to find people from every walk of life to build his life around. We must find ourselves engaging in relationship with people who do not know Christ and may not have the same pursuits or values to which we hold.

The life of a Christian is to be built around two purposes: first, to bring glory to God and second, to bring people to Christ. If we shape our lives in this manner, we will find ourselves in the bleachers at our children’s games next to people who have no desire for God or His Word. We will find ourselves hosting unbelievers around our tables praying for the opportunity to show them the love of Christ and share the gospel with them.

It would be so easy for us to build our social circles around fellow church members, Christian friends, and like-minded neighbors. Yet, Jesus charges us to take the gospel to everyone we possibly can while we remain on this earth. This means we must intentionally plan our lives with a gospel purpose.

REFLECTION: How many unsaved people have you welcomed into your life to show them the love of Christ?
