Sons and Daughters

"And will be a Father unto you,and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty;' 2 Corinthians 6:18.

I am many things. I am apastor, adad, ahusband, a son and abrother. I am also a frustrated fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. I am blessed by the many titles and experiences which God has given me. Chances are great that you are as many things or more than I am. You may be aparent or spouse or a frustrated sports fan, and you are definitely a child and grandchild. Hopefully, another descriptor that you and I have in common is that we are children of God. As much as I love my wife and children and parents and siblings and church members and countless others, I am most grateful to be a child of God.

I did not do anything to deserve God's grace. Paul said that he was chief among sinners (1 Timothy 1:15), but I could respectfully debate him for that title. I have done more wrong in this world than I will probably ever do right, and God still loved me enough to send Jesus to pay the price for my sins. I will forever be in awe of my Savior's love for me. Of course, I am not the only beneficiary of God's amazing love. God loved the whole world so much that He sent Jesus to be the Savior of mankind (John 3:16). "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" (1 John 2:2).

What do people call you? Do they call you son or daughter, coworker, best friend or Sunday School teacher? If you made a list of descriptive terms for yourself is "child of God" on that list? I hope it is. If not, do something about it today.

REFLECTION

"We are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ" (Romans 8:16,17).
