Power,Peace and Praise
“Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth,” Psalm 46:10.
“Hallowed be thy name.” Every time we repeat the Model Prayer, we repeat that phrase, “hallowed be thy name.” It is a prayer that God would make His name to be considered holy. When we pray “hallowed be thy name,” we are asking God to spread His fame and His glory over all of the earth.
The principle of this prayer did not originate with Jesus. In our text above, God tells us that He will be exalted among the heathen or the nations of the world. His name will be glorified over the whole earth. Even though He chose Israel to be His unique and holy people, He deserves and desires worship from all people.
What is so exciting about this is that God invites us to join in this work, not just in doing our own exaltation and praise, but to bring that exaltation and praise to all peoples. In the Great Commission, Jesus laid out the plan for us to go and make disciples of all nations, of all peoples. We do this so that God’s name would be hallowed, considered holy, over all the earth. This is the plan that drives our churches and should propel our lives.
As you consider Jesus’ promise to be with us, even to the end of the age, we should remember that this promise comes in the context of fulfilling the Great Commission. We find the greatest presence of Jesus on the battlefield. He invites us to His side to be about the work of exalting God among the nations. What a privilege we have to be called to this!
REFLECTION
We find Jesus’ power while doing the work of the gospel, not on the sidelines. Find the work and find the power.
