In His Sanctuary

Psalm 96 is a classic praise psalm. It is all about the Lord and how greatly He is to be praised. Follow me as we look at some of the statements in this psalm.

“Sing unto the Lord” (verse 2). You are not a singer and just really do not like to sing. Well sing anyway because the Lord commanded you to do so, and I think you will find that singing is a natural way to praise the Lord.

“For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised” (verse 4). Why do you praise the Lord? You praise the Lord because He is great! And that is reason enough.

“Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name” (verse 8). How do you give God glory? He is glorious already. You give God glory by honoring Him, recognizing His glorious character and glorious ways. Interestingly, offerings immediately follow this command to give God glory. Take heed!

“O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (verse 9). You are commanded to worship the Lord in holiness. His holiness or yours? I think it leans toward your holiness. You are to especially dedicate yourself to worship the Lord. This takes focus, effort and commitment, things you may lack in your worship of the Lord.

“He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth” (verse 13). The Lord is coming and coming soon. When He comes, He will judge the world in righteousness and truth. Are you ready?

Thought: “Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day” (Psalm 96:2).
